Many times Asbestos Abatement becomes necessary when it has the potential to become disturbed during a water damage mitigation incident or other emergency, where it might otherwise never have been an issue, when just left alone.  Combine this with the general misconception that asbestos containing materials and products are no longer sold in the USA… and the general knowledge that Asbestos Containing Material(ACM)s are potentially hazardous and known to cause cancer and lung disease., and it is clear to see why Asbestos is highly regulated (per CFR-2011-Title 40-Volume 8-Section 61-145).

Most people think that a brand-new “Green” building will be free of ACM, however,  we know that contractors may not realize a product or materials they just installed or used to repair or remodel space in a new building may, in fact, contain asbestos.  This is why the US EPA requires building owners, property managers, and contractors to follow very specific regulations, even under Emergency Renovation Operations.  These regulations include the testing of suspect areas and building materials for ACM and proper federal and state agency notifications for ALL projects where the area to be disturbed exceeds 160 SF or 260 LF (on Pipes).

Disaster can strike in an instant and the longer your facility or home is exposed to hazardous and/or highly corrosive elements, the more dangerous the environment can become and the more damage that is done… ACM hazards are commonly discovered during a mitigation event.
